THE REALITY OF MAKING

After nearly 10 years of lorenz, manufacturing has become one of the most important parts of how we think about clothing. Behind every garment is a long chain of makers, processes and decisions that shape the final piece long before it reaches the wearer. At the centre of it all is craftsmanship.

These experiences helped shape Recraft Studio, our ongoing project born from the reality that not everything we produce makes it through quality control. Rather than letting those pieces go to waste, we rework them into one-of-a-kind garments using vintage textiles and traditional techniques.

INDIA

As lorenz has grown, so has our focus on craft. India has become a big part of that journey, allowing us to explore hand embroidery and more artisanal processes through relationships built over several trips to Delhi.

It was always important for us to visit in person, to understand the environment, the people behind the work, and how garments are made. These relationships continue to shape the way we approach craftsmanship today.

CHINA

Over time, we came to appreciate that no single factory can do everything. Some workshops are rooted in hand techniques and craftsmanship, others in technical production and specialised machinery. Understanding that balance became an important part of refining our collections.

Moving a portion of our production to China became a natural extension of that approach. What we found was an incredible level of precision, consistency and expertise. Factories with years of knowledge, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of their craft.

UNITED KINGDOM

Closer to home, all Recraft Studio pieces are produced in our UK studio. Rooted in our commitment to reducing waste, the project gives new life to damaged and forgotten garments through thoughtful upcycling.

Using carefully sourced vintage textiles and deadstock, each piece is reworked by hand into a one-of-one garments shaped by material, craft and individuality.

PORTUGUAL

We have also spent a lot of time in the north of Portugal, particularly around Braga, working closely with shirting suppliers. The quality and attention to detail is exceptional.

The challenge for us has often been minimums. At our size, the required quantities can still be difficult to reach, but it is something we hope to continue building into over time.

RELATIONSHIPS

It took us a few years to realise that relationships are everything. Without the right people, the whole process falls apart.

A good supplier is not just someone who can make something. It is trust, communication and a shared care for the final product. When the right people come together, it becomes something much bigger than simply making clothes.
